Patch the People: The Power of Rebooting Ourselves in a Hacked-Up World

Updated: Jun 27

Let’s start here:

Patching, in the tech world, is the process of updating software or systems to fix vulnerabilities and keep things running securely. You know those annoying pop-ups that ask you to restart your computer or update your phone? That’s patching in action. It’s not just about new features—it’s about protection. Behind the scenes, developers are constantly finding holes that bad actors could exploit. So, they send out “patches” to cover them.

We don’t wait for our servers to crash before updating them. So… why do we do that to ourselves?

Back in the days of my old coaching company, I wasn’t talking about ransomware or network vulnerabilities—I was talking about people. Burnout. Boundaries. Purpose. Leadership. I was always a stand for helping humans restore, fortify, and come back online after life knocked them around. Turns out, that’s not so different from what I do now.

Because whether we’re talking tech or human, the truth is the same: We can’t keep running on outdated systems.

We, the humans—the ones running the machines—we get tired. We forget to reboot. We ignore the signs that say, “Hey, something’s off here.” And before we know it, we’re in reactive mode. Living on autopilot. Exhausted, overwhelmed, and waiting for something to break before we take a breath.

Sound familiar?

We’re living in a world right now that feels… a little glitchy. The headlines are heavy. The to-do lists are endless. And if you're a leader—of a business, a team, a family, or even just yourself—it’s easy to put off your own maintenance.

But here’s the deal: you have the power to patch yourself. To pause. To reflect. To choose differently.

You can take 15 minutes and go for a walk. You can say “no” to that call you don’t need to take. You can update your inner software by resting, by journaling, by laughing with someone who sees you.

This isn’t fluff. This is resilience architecture.

We patch systems to protect the network. We patch ourselves to protect the community.

So consider this your reminder—not just to patch your devices (please do that too), but to check in with the human behind the dashboard.

💡 What’s feeling outdated in your life?

💡 What habits need a reboot?

💡 Where have you been running a risky script without even realizing it?

You don’t need a complete system overhaul. Just one thoughtful update at a time.

At CyberSoul, we believe patching is sacred work. It’s technical. It’s emotional. It’s human. Because in the end, the firewall that matters most isn’t on a server. It’s you.
